Natural wine and family please!
It was in 2018 that two brothers, Joseph and Sylvestre Mosse took over the family estate after many trips around the world. South Africa, Denmark, Chile, land of winemaker Roberto Henriques that we went to visit. It is through these journeys that they discovered the diversity of grape varieties that can exist. Passed by renowned winegrowers such as Frédéric Cossard and Yvon Métras for their internship period, the Mosse brothers produce wines without chemistry, from the terroir and fresh. Their parents, Agnès and René Mosse have chosen since 1999 to respect their land by working in organic and healthy farming. This choice now makes it possible to taste life-size wines!
The story of the Mosse estate
Agnès and René Mosse settled in the small town of Saint Lambert du Lattay, in Maine et Loire, in 1999. 4 years earlier, they both followed a course in viticulture and oenology at the Lycée d'Amboise. During these years as young graduates, they will meet Thierry Puzelat, Christian Chaussard, Jacquou Thevenot, François Mikulski, Dominique Derain, Frédéric Cossard… Big names who will become a source of inspiration for them.
In 2014 , the two sons of the Mosse family, Joseph and Sylvestre joined the family estate to perpetuate the talent of their parents.
The two brothers first traveled abroad to discover the know-how and wine culture specific to each country. Joseph traveled to Denmark and Chile, where he studied wine marketing and culture. Sylvestre meanwhile, discovered the grape harvest on the land of South Africa, then he worked in several restaurants in London. And it was while returning to the French capital that he continued to train in the great address of Paris: Le Chateaubriand.
Joseph and Sylvestre Mosse take over the torch of Domaine Mosse in 2018. The following year, they decide to import and distribute foreign Chilean, South African and Austrian wines, in order to share the cultures they have had.
It's time to get to know new grape varieties, unknown in France, new flavors and a different wine culture.
The Loire Valley wine region
The 15 hectares of Domaine Mosse are located in the town of Saint Lambert du Lattay , Beaulieu sur Layon and Les Savennières. We mainly find in the vineyard: Chenin for fine and complex white wines and Cabernet Franc for fruity and very fresh red wines, there is also Grolleau gris, Grolleau noir, Gamay and Côt. A variety of grape varieties that offers us a wide range of white and red wines to taste.
Agnès and René Mosse have chosen since 1999 to respect their land by working in organic farming, healthy farming. They are certified and controlled agrobiology by Bureau Veritas. They implement working methods in order to respect their environment, and to listen to the landscape. The use of the plow, elbow grease, scraper, claws... allows the grasses to feed the micro-organisms of the soil. They treat the soil against mildew and powdery mildew (parasitic fungi) and use nettle slurry to promote the plants' antibiotic defense systems.
The vineyard benefits from an oceanic, humid climate and there are very few temperature differences. On the other hand, the volume of precipitation is quite low (600 millimeters/year).
The Coteaux du Layon, created by tectonic movements, are composed of shale and sandstone (metamorphic, sedimentary and volcanic rocks). It is in these hillsides that the harvest is organized. A team of about twenty people picks the grapes by hand to keep the bunches of raisins whole and promote the aromatic potential of the wines.
