The wines of Clos Belle Croix by Reynald Héaulé
The story of Reynald Héaulé
Reynald Héaulé is a passionate winegrower based in the Loire Valley, in Sologne, where he carefully tends 2 hectares of vines at Clos Belle Croix.
He grows several grapes: Chardonnay for the whites, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc for the reds. Reynald knows exactly how to farm his vines and when to harvest, for ripe, balanced grapes.
True to a philosophy of natural winemaking, he adds no sulphur to his wines, so every bottle can develop all its richness and purity. Demanding and precise, he makes refined, complex wines that speak of their Sologne terroir, at very gentle prices for this level of quality.
His wines also age beautifully: his older vintages show all his talent as a grower and winemaker, wines made complex by time yet still fresh.
The cuvées of Clos Belle Croix
In red, L'Insoumis du Village is elegant and fine, with Cabernet Franc bringing superb structure without the green notes sometimes typical of the grape. À contre-courant is stunningly elegant: perfumed, floral and fruity on the nose, spicier on the palate, with unbeatable value. Forget Burgundy! Atypique is a fiercely effective crowd-pleaser, fruity, with a light tannic structure that adds complexity without heaviness.
In white, Terre de Silice lets the terroir speak with magnificent tension and salinity, a touch of roundness from barrel ageing, all perfectly balanced. The Rive Droite range comes in white and red, and for bubbles there's Silice en Bulles. Also discover the Ô cuvée.
Natural wines with no added sulphur, pure and full of character: a lovely Loire discovery!
