The wines of Domaine Belluard
The story of Domaine Belluard
Dominique Belluard, nicknamed "Monsieur Gringet", is passionate about the wine world. He studied viticulture and oenology in Beaune before taking over the family estate in Ayse, Haute-Savoie, in the 1980s: 10 hectares farmed as polyculture (surrounded by raspberry and blackcurrant bushes and other fruit trees to favour good grape growing). Dominique looks far ahead and has one goal: to preserve the rare Gringet grape. In 2001 he decided to convert all his vines to organic and biodynamic farming. Dominique also cares about letting the full richness of his terroir express itself, with minimal intervention in the cellar. The white wines he makes in his micro-vineyard from Gringet are recognised as among the greatest whites of France, as are the traditional-method wines of the Ayse vineyard.
The cuvées of Dominique Belluard
Dominique's wines come to life on over 11 hectares of vines in the Arve Valley, between Geneva and Chamonix, on steep slopes. Thanks to a diversity of soils (limestone scree, yellow marl, red clay), Dominique makes exceptional, unique wines. He grows a wide range of grapes, such as Mondeuse and Altesse as well as Gringet, to produce different healthy juices that reveal their terroir. Dominique owned more than half of the Gringet planted in the Ayse appellation. Terroir-revealing wines through cuvées such as Les Alpes, Mont-Blanc, Le Feu and Les Grandes Jorasses. All blended with Dominique's talent for making pure, digestible, emotional wines.
