His destiny was not necessarily linked to wines, but rather to his faithful steed who was his bicycle. Axel Domont, a former professional cyclist in the AG2R La Mondiale team, has decided to change his life and trust his second passion, which is wine.

The beautiful story of Axel Domont

Originally from Drôme, Axel first traveled the roads of France and the world on his bike before landing in the vineyards. Based in Chambéry, Axel Domont joined the training division of the AG2R La Mondiale team before joining the professional team for seven years. His career change was almost an obligation, because if he could have continued for a few more years, Axel would have done it. Indeed, after two Tour de France and many races around the world, he broke his collarbone and pelvis several times. The last race of his career will also end with a broken sixth collarbone. A brutal fall for an equally brutal professional career stoppage. We have to face the facts, Axel Domont is physically and mentally exhausted, it is moreover on his hospital bed that he will make the decision to retire, and to take a new path.
He decides to move towards his second passion; nature, and also wine. Axel Domont then decided to become a winegrower. He resumes studies, he sets up his company. And falls on Nicolas Ferrand hand, the Domaine des Côtes Rousses. The latter will trust him, and above all give him a chance by welcoming him into his cellar. Axel launched himself as a merchant, buys grapes from Savoy winegrowers working in organic or biodynamic agriculture, and produces them in his own way.
Nicolas Ferrand therefore lends him his walls, the barrels, the vats to make his first wines and he has can do whatever he wants. Axel Domont wines will see the light of day in 2021.
Two fine years after his debut as an autodidact, Axel Domont settled in his home, in Les Marches, with a breathtaking view of Mont Granier. A Mount which also has a very long history of life.

Axel has no regrets about this life choice; to come back to the earth, to do something with his hands, it was what he wanted. And it is with talent that he succeeds in this conversion. He vinifies his wines with sincerity, audacity and a lot of enthusiasm. Axel wines have a real story and it shows. His wines are above all fresh, with controlled acidity, it awakens the taste buds.
Axel therefore has vines on rent, on the heights of Apremont and on Les Marches. It wants to be as natural as possible, so they are organically grown.
He first started by making this 100% Gamay de Fréterive, Nuit Blanche 2020. A name in reference to the work that this bottle required of it. For fear that it would deviate, Axel watched over it nights, the result is very energizing. He has produced a new bottle, Flamme rouge 2021. A nod to his former cycling career, which evokes the last kilometer of a race. A blend of Mondeuse, Pinot Noir and Gamay that offers a lot of freshness and fruit, thanks in particular to a short maceration.
Axel Domont's latest baby, Kilometre 0 2021, always in reference to his past as a top athlete. A 100% Jacquère bottle from several soils, aged in amphora and half muids. For the purest expression of Jacquère. Chien d'arrêt 2020, in magnum, is a blend of Jacquère and Roussette, for maximum liveliness and tension.
