The wines of Corentin Houillon
The story of Corentin Houillon
When you think of living wine in Savoie, you think of Corentin Houillon. Before setting up on his own, he learnt from Pierre Overnoy, one of the great figures of natural wine in the Jura, who passed on his way of growing vines and making wine without artifice.
Since 2018, Corentin has been based in Chautagne, in the north of the Savoie vineyards, on red-earth terroirs. He farms his vines biodynamically and works the local grapes: Gamay, Mondeuse and Pinot Noir for reds, Jacquère and Altesse for whites.
In the cellar the line is clear: no additives, no filtration, and wines that stay as close as possible to their terroir. The Corentin style means bright fruit, the spicy notes typical of Chautagne and incredible drinkability. He also makes collaborations with Pauline Maziou of Petite Nature. One of the future greats of French natural wine, if he isn't already!
The cuvées of Corentin Houillon
Among the reds, Veronnet rouge is mostly Gamay with some Mondeuse: Chautagne style par excellence, fruity and spicy. Vieux Foug, from Chautagne Gamay, combines fruit and spice while staying very easy to drink, as good as an aperitif as at the table. Arcane is the estate's 100% Pinot Noir, on red earth, half destemmed and barrel-aged: elegant, fine and spicy, made for food without any heaviness.
Among the whites, Veronnet blanc blends Jacquère and Altesse, the classic Chautagne blend, fresh, mineral and fruity. Montée Furieuse is a pure Jacquère, lively, mineral and mouth-watering. Force of Nature is a Roussette de Savoie combining Altesse's fruit with the terroir's minerality. Zenith macerates around twenty days for complex aromas, silky tannins and lovely bitterness.
For bubbles, Comète is a fruity, juicy, thirst-quenching pét-nat. Also discover the Cosmos cuvée.
