The wines of Domaine Tempier
The story of Domaine Tempier
The estate's long history begins under the reign of Louis XV. After the phylloxera crisis, Léonie Tempier, Lucie Peyraud's great-grandmother, replanted new vines to keep the estate alive. Then, as Lucien Peyraud wished to become a winegrower with his wife Lucie, the couple took over the family estate in 1940. They decided to expand the vineyard and plant a range of grape varieties such as the famous Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Grenache. Their two sons, Jean-Marie and François, joined the estate in 1960: François became vineyard manager and Jean-Marie took charge of winemaking and sales. In 2013 Daniel Ravier chose to farm the estate biodynamically to preserve its biological balance. Today the 38-hectare estate is considered an emblematic estate in the wine world and the benchmark in Bandol.
The cuvées of Lucien Peyraud
The cuvées produced at Domaine Tempier have carried the Bandol Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée since 1941. The first rosé was made in 1943, followed by the first Bandol Rouge in 1953. The famous Migoua, Tourtine, Cabassaou and La Bastide cuvées are crafted as wines that reveal their terroir. The estate's white and rosé Bandols are made in a fruity, floral style.
