All about Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles
The story of Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles
The estate's origins go back to the first half of the 17th century, when the land was already recorded as vines, a bastide, olive and hazel trees around La Cadière d'Azur. It appears in deeds from 1641 that name the property Lafran. Over the centuries, the estate was brought together and divided up several times before entering, in the 19th century, the family that still owns it today. At the beginning of the 20th century, great-grandfather Romain Ventre left the property to his granddaughter Clément. It was her husband, Louis Ferec, a painter and member of the Académie du Var, who gave the estate new momentum from 1929. Drawn by the beauty of the place, he devoted much of his energy to rebuilding, expanding and renovating the vineyard. Thanks to his passionate work, Lafran-Veyrolles became one of the recognised estates of the Bandol appellation, despite its modest size. Later, the passion passed to their children and then to the next generation. Today, the Ferec-Jouve family continues to run the estate, growing the vines and vinifying the grapes with respect for heritage and traditional practices.
The wines of Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles
The wines of Domaine Lafran-Veyrolles fully express the Bandol terroir: clay-limestone soils, Mediterranean exposure and maritime influence. Harvesting is done by hand and vineyard work is carried out with great care to promote the intrinsic quality of the grapes. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified with precise monitoring so that terroir and grape varieties can speak naturally. The structure of the red wines often relies on mourvèdre, king of the Bandol appellation, complemented by traditional varieties such as grenache, cinsault or clairette. The cuvées reflect the energy of the soil, the finesse of the blue marls and the typicity of the Mediterranean climate, producing wines that are powerful, balanced and elegant. Rosés and whites also benefit from this unique influence, offering fresh, aromatic expressions, ideal as an aperitif or at the table.
