A family wine estate since 1892
In the Var region, in the heart of Provence, within the Bandol appellation, it is here that the Castell-Reynoard family winery is located, now taken over by Julien Castell, representing the fourth generation.
In 1988, Jean-Marie Castell, Julien's father, decided to produce and market the estate's first bottles of wine. Born on the family vineyard and having always lived in the middle of the vines, it was in 2010 that Julien Castell took over the work of his father with passion and with the aim of developing the estate towards biodynamics. Today, Julien is keen to preserve the soul of the family estate while ensuring that the operation is in perfect harmony with the development of fauna and flora.
The Castell-Reynoard estate has 8 hectares of vines, including the cellars and the family home, and is one of the smallest estates in the region. A small area, certainly, but of undeniable quality! For four generations, the Castell-Reynoard estate has benefited from the Bandol appellation producing white, red and rosé wine with the greatest respect for the soil. Indeed, the vineyard is composed mainly of old vines amplifying the characteristics of Bandol wine.
Finally, the wines of the Castell-Reynoard estate draw their aromatic richness, their delicacy and their balance from a preserved soil of clay-limestone.
Respectful of traditions and nature, the Castell family strives to produce quality wine. Ideally exposed and benefiting from a marine influence, the vineyard of the Castell-Reynoard estate produces remarkable bottles. Different grape varieties are worked with passion within the estate such as Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre or Clairette. These grape varieties are cultivated with enthusiasm in order to produce exceptional bottles faithful to the land.
An area rich in nature and biodiversity!
The Castell-Reynoard estate works with the help of biodynamics, agroforestry and market gardening, producing beautiful natural wines from Provence.
Instilled by his grandfather and his father, it is with the passion of the authentic product that Julien Castell develops his estate. Attentive to respecting the nature, the winegrower is inspired by biodynamic methods to exploit his land and vines in order to best preserve the natural expression of the soil. To follow the vegetative cycle of the vine, the use of herbal tea and other reasoned and natural practices for the treatment, the accompaniment of the vineyard according to the cosmic influences (monitoring of the lunar calendar) as well as the work of the soil on horseback are adopted. Thus making it possible to protect and develop the biodiversity of the fauna and flora, and also to unearth a quality wine.
Respect for life, that is the definition of Julien Castell's work on his vines. By focusing on biology and biodynamics, the Castell-Reynoard estate manages to produce wines with pure balance. Indeed, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, Julien Castell minimizes the intervention of man in the work of his wines as much as possible in order to preserve and transmit the natural harmony of the vine and the soil. The winemaker seeks to produce atypical wines and above all with the taste of the Bandol. With such an influx of flora and fauna in total harmony, the purity of Julien's approach to his wine takes on its full meaning.
