Wines from Domaine Haugarot
The history of Domaine Haugarot
Domaine Haugarot is a small independent estate located in Saint-Faust, in the heart of Béarn, at the foot of the Pyrenees. This is where Jean-Pierre Proharam chose to revive the family land by establishing a human-scale vineyard focused on respecting living organisms. From the outset, the choice of organic viticulture was an obvious one. The vines, cultivated without synthetic chemicals, benefit from living soil and a preserved environment. Treatments are rare, harvesting is done by hand, and the cellar operates without additives or harsh techniques. Jean-Pierre's work is fully in line with the natural wine movement of the South-West, with particular attention paid to the expression of the terroir, natural balances, and the climatic conditions specific to dry Jurançon. His artisanal approach, rooted in a peasant philosophy, aims above all to produce honest wines, consistent with their place of origin, without embellishment.
The cuvées of Domaine Haugarot
The cuvées of Domaine Haugarot are made from typical dry Jurançon grape varieties, such as Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, and Courbu. These emblematic South-West varieties are vinified without added sulfur, and some wines are neither filtered nor fined, to preserve the integrity of the grape and reveal a raw expression of the terroir. Cuvées like Camahor, La Roue Voilée, Dame Nature, and Esberit demonstrate great stylistic freedom, far from the fixed standards of the appellation. These are free wines, living, with a strong identity, designed for the table. They tell the story of a corner of Béarn countryside where wine is made differently: with patience, care, and a clear vision of the link between agriculture, landscape, and the pleasure of drinking. Domaine Haugarot is aimed at those seeking sincere, rooted wines, produced outside industrial logics, in line with the values of natural wine.
