The wines of Château de Béru
Athénaïs de Béru, the heiress who changed everything
Château de Béru has belonged to the same family for centuries, in the small village of Béru, just outside Chablis in Burgundy. In the mid-2000s, Athénaïs de Béru left a career in Paris to take over the family estate. She decided to vinify the grapes herself, which until then had been sold to négociants, and to make the estate a benchmark for living wines in the Yonne.
The estate's 15 or so hectares of vines are farmed biodynamically and certified organic. The lunar cycles set the rhythm of life at the estate, in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Vibrant, finely chiselled Chablis
In Béru, Chardonnay grows on the famous limestone and marl soils of the Chablis region, which give the wines their characteristic tension and minerality. The estate's pride is the Clos Béru, a walled plot.
In the cellar, Athénaïs works with indigenous yeasts, long ageing and very little sulphur, for pure, saline wines of great precision. Chablis that shook up the appellation and made Château de Béru one of the most followed estates among natural wine lovers.
