The wines of Vinyas d'Empremta
The story of Vinyas d'Empremta
Vinyas d'Empremta is a project that celebrates Catalonia's winegrowing memory. Empremta means “imprint” in Catalan, and that is exactly the point: rediscovering the imprint of the terroirs and grapes of the past. No big international names here, but old, rare local varieties, often forgotten, such as sumoll, mandó, garrut, garsenc and bartrol. Grapes long neglected because considered unproductive, which are now regaining their place thanks to curious, committed winemakers. They give naturally fresh, low-alcohol wines full of identity, in sharp contrast to the image of heavy, powerful Spanish reds. Winemaking is natural, in search of lightness and drinkability. The result: wines of astonishing freshness, telling another story of Spanish wine and delighting lovers of discovery.
The cuvées of Vinyas d'Empremta
Sucamulla is a rather unusual red, since its blend includes a majority of white grapes, alongside bartrol, sumoll, mandó, garsenc and garrut. The result is an airy, light, fruity wine at around 11.5% alcohol, perfect for summer or for lovers of red wine at aperitif time, with a good pâté en croûte. Curull blends the same Catalan red grapes in a spicier, fruitier style, with nice tannins that let it easily accompany a barbecue or a fine piece of meat. Two Spanish reds of astonishing freshness and terroir identity, to serve between 12 and 15 °C to fully enjoy their fruit. A great gateway into the world of forgotten Catalan grapes.
