The wines of Domaine Obora
The story of Domaine Obora
Domaine Obora was born in 2021 in Chénas, in the heart of Beaujolais, from the meeting of two winemakers: Angela Quiblier, originally from the Jura, and Hugo Foizel. Both worked at major Burgundy houses and estates, then gained experience in France and abroad, before choosing Beaujolais to build their own project. The estate is farmed organically, with particular attention to the soils and to the expression of each plot, between Chénas and Juliénas. In the cellar, winemaking is low-intervention and favours purity of fruit. Their wines show a real balance between freshness, finesse and depth, often with a slight Jura accent inherited from Angela's background. A modern, precise reading of the Beaujolais crus, from a young estate well worth following.
The cuvées of Domaine Obora
Juliénas, from the estate's only plot in this appellation, delivers a dense, spicy gamay carried by lovely acidity that makes it drinkable and playful, perfect with charcuterie or poultry. Chénas En Papolet comes from a plot on pink granite: an airy, generous and drinkable wine with a Jura-red feel, which we offer in magnum, in a special no-sulphur bottling. Blanc.o proves there is more than gamay in Beaujolais: a Juliénas chardonnay aged in barrel on its lees and unfiltered, with a rich texture and a saline finish. Finally, Bob is the estate's négoce cuvée, made from organic grapes from winemaker friends: a light, fruity and easy Beaujolais-Villages gamay, designed for aperitifs with friends.
