It is in the south of Chile, in Itata, that Leonardo Erazo makes his wines based on Cinsault, País, Sémillon... Don't be fooled by the country's climate, but by the indecent freshness that is in the bottles of Leo! To discover.
The Natural Wines of Chile by Leonardo Erazo
He speaks French, English, Spanish, which shows how much experience Leonardo Erazo has. The knowledge concerning wine, the lands of his country are inexhaustible, which is what makes him a rare talent. With a degree in agronomy and oenology in hand, Leonardo Erazo decided to conquer the world of wine. For 10 years, he will work for different fields, while continuing to study soils, geology and biodynamics. He then decided to return to his land, to the historic vineyards of Itata in southern Chile. It is therefore between Santiago and Concepción that Leo will put in place everything he has learned and produce unique wines.
On one hand, there are Bravos wines, where Leonardo Erazo buys wines from producers who work with the greatest respect for the environment. On the other hand, Leo has its own land and cultivates according to organic and biodynamic farming. His knowledge of the soils, and his experience with Pedro Parra (one of the greatest defenders of soil wines in South America) allows him to cultivate his vines as well as possible, and produce exceptional natural wines. Leo likes to work in a simple, traditional way, while including more modern techniques. The authenticity of the wine above all.
In the Itata Valley, producers working in organic farming are sometimes equipped with the bare necessities. This proves the efficiency of the traditional work of the time, a minimalist work in the vineyard. The less human intervention there is, the more the expression of the soil is preserved.
In winemaking, there is only one and the same way of working, with concrete vats. The fermentations take place in the concrete eggs, and Leo carefully keeps a few old amphorae.
The wines of Leonardo Erazo
At Los Vinateros Bravos, it is its range that refers to traditional families. At the time, these families were already cultivating the vines, a story dating back several centuries that Leo wants to keep in mind. Let's talk about the Pipeño bottle, Chile 's oldest wine. Tradition wants to bottle this unfiltered wine, a fresh wine, simply a wine for sharing.
Leonardo Erazo produces wines based on the País grape variety, but also and mainly, Cinsault. In white, he works with Moscatel, Muscat and Sémillon. Grape varieties that give very aromatic wines, wines that are explosive in fruit. Leo's signature remains on freshness, tension and wines full of life. For this, Leo works in a traditional way to best reflect his soils. The harvest is manual, native yeast, fermentation in whole bunches, concrete vats.
An exceptional work to discover absolutely!
