The wines of Filarole
The story of Filarole
Filarole is the estate of Barbara Pulliero and Paolo Rusconi, in Pianello Val Tidone, in Emilia-Romagna. We are in the far north-west of the region, in the hills of Piacenza, a stone's throw from Piedmont and Lombardy. Barbara and Paolo work their vines with passion, but above all with a lot of love and immense respect for nature. The estate has a majority of old vines, planted with native grapes: barbera and croatina for reds, malvasia aromatica, ortrugo and trebbiano for whites. In the cellar, no inputs: the wines are 100% natural, with sometimes long macerations and patient ageing, giving wines that can age well. The Filarole style combines ripe fruit and freshness, with a true Italian identity, both gourmand and elegant. Wines with a unique expression, off the beaten track.
The cuvées of Filarole
Rosso is the estate's gourmand everyday red: ripe-fruited, tangy and crunchy, without inputs and with a warm profile, calling for a nice barbecue. Fatto coi Piedi is a fragrant, aromatic skin-contact wine made from malvasia aromatica, ortrugo and trebbiano, yet with incredible freshness and salinity: orange wine lovers will adore it, especially with a board of aged cheeses. Genius Loci is a food wine blending barbera, croatina and merlot: concentrated, spicy and juicy, with melted, elegant tannins after a few years in bottle, perfect with a rib of beef. Finally, Santa Pazienza is the estate's reserve cuvée: a croatina macerated for forty days to extract age-worthy tannins, then aged at length in bottle before release. A great natural wine for ageing, Italian style.
