The wines of the Scarlata family
The story of the Scarlata family
The adventure began in 2012 as a family project that Véronique and Renaud ran alongside their respective jobs. Their son Guilhem has since joined the estate full time and has become its driving force. The plots, some of them tucked away among oak woods, ripen slowly thanks to the cool winds coming down from the Cévennes: a real asset in a part of the Gard where sunshine is never in short supply. In the vineyard, everything is designed to keep the soils alive: grass left in every other row for wildlife, light and regular tilling, and since 2023 the help of Joanna, a draught mare who ploughs part of the vines.
The cuvées of the Scarlata family
The grape varieties are thoroughly Mediterranean: Syrah, Grenache Noir, Carignan, Cinsault and Œillade for the reds, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon and Alvarinho for the whites. Fermentations rely on native yeasts, with no additives and at most a light protective dose of sulphur when the wine truly needs it. Every cuvée is bottled as Vin de France, which leaves the family free to blend as it sees fit. You will find juicy reds such as Petite matinée tranquille, built around Grenache, and skin-contact whites such as Lune rousse: wines from the South, yet light on their feet and luminous, ready to enjoy without waiting.
