The wines of Domaine Vallée Moray
The story of Domaine Vallée Moray
Between Amboise and Tours, on the terroirs of Montlouis-sur-Loire, Hervé Grenier runs Domaine Vallée Moray. Montlouis is the appellation facing Vouvray, across the Loire, and one of the great chenin terroirs. Hervé farms there under certified organic agriculture, on silty, stony soils that give taut, mineral wines. In the cellar, the line is clear: wines without inputs, with long ageing that gives the wine time to build itself and gain complexity. But Hervé doesn't stop at chenin. He also produces pinot noir, a rarity in Montlouis, which gives reds of remarkable finesse. Precise, pure, living Loire wines, just the way we like them, and a still little-known estate that well deserves to be discovered.
The cuvées of Domaine Vallée Moray
Cailloutis is a chenin just as we like them: lively, mineral, mouthwatering and appetising. The ideal kind of wine to kick things off at aperitif time, and more if you get along. Hervé shows all his precision on his silty soils here, and a short time in a carafe lets it express itself fully. Figurines, for its part, is a haute couture pinot noir: an incredible scent of flowers and peony, an elegant structure, supple tannins and rare precision. All without any inputs, a pure pinot juice proving that Montlouis is not only chenin country. A red to serve slightly chilled, with poultry, grilled fish or a board of Touraine goat cheeses.
