Date of Beaujolais Nouveau 2023
The date for Beaujolais Nouveau has fallen and it's still a great opportunity to celebrate! The Beaujolais Nouveau will take place on Thursday November 16, 2023.
What is Beaujolais Nouveau?
A traditional wine festival around the world, Beaujolais Nouveau arrives on the tables on the third Thursday of November. Beaujolais Nouveau has been above all a great national holiday since 1951. For the record, a decree ensures that the Beaujolais wines of the year can only be sold after December 15. Movement of revolt for the Beaujolais unions who think that their young wines can be sold long before. Thus, they are called primeurs, and a new appellation was born thanks to the Beaujolais: Beaujolais Nouveau or Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau.

How is Beaujolais Nouveau made?
Beaujolais Nouveau is therefore made from Gamay grapes, from the Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages appellations, north of Lyon and south of Mâcon. The Gamay Noir with white juice which constitutes the Beaujolais Nouveau is therefore harvested during the usual harvest, only its vinification changes to the traditional Beaujolais. Beaujolais Nouveau is meant to be fresh and fruity, so it is vinified quickly. The fermentation does not last long, and there is either a carbonic maceration or a traditional maceration depending on the winemakers. The important thing is to keep the fruit of Gamay perfect, its freshness, its soil juice. Breeding only lasts a few weeks. Today Beaujolais Nouveau no longer has the label of table wine, botched red wine. It is a real Beaujolais red wine in its own right, it is made with rigor by the natural winegrowers of the Beaujolais region, it has as much attention during vinification. Wines from the soils we like, 100% grape juice.
What do we eat with Beaujolais Nouveau?
Beaujolais Nouveau is above all a real moment of sharing, a festive moment. In France, it is expected above all to taste the primeurs of the winegrowers (who are already announcing the signature of the vintage of their other bottles). With this fresh and fruity Gamay, you can eat local charcuterie boards (it's always better), or even light cheese. It is an easy wine to taste, it will go wonderfully with your apetizers.
How is Beaujolais Nouveau consumed?
This Gamay from primeur must be consumed when young to keep all this aromatic side, this fresh and fruity side. The purpose of this event is to consume it when it comes out, in November and the months that follow. But today, the work of the winegrowers makes it possible to keep it for up to 2 years. Maximum. To enjoy its fruit, you can also consume it quite cool, between 12 and 14 degrees.
At Epi-curieux.com, you can find our selection of Beaujolais Nouveau each year, such as the primeurs of P'ti Max, the primeurs of Nicolas Chemarin as well, but also those of Julien Bertrand or even Raphaël Saint-Cyr.
