The whiskies of Michel Couvreur
A pioneer of "French-style" whisky
Michel Couvreur is a unique figure in the world of spirits. He left for Scotland in the 1960s, fell in love with whisky and learned every aspect of the craft: choosing the grain, malting, distilling and above all the art of ageing.
Back in Burgundy, he set up his house in Bouze-lès-Beaune, near Beaune, in cellars carved into the rock. There he aged whiskies distilled in Scotland, which he matured and blended himself. He was also one of the first to offer organic whiskies.
The art of ageing
At Michel Couvreur, everything happens in the cask. The whiskies age mainly in former sherry casks, selected with extreme care, in the constant cool and humidity of the Burgundy cellars.
The result? Whiskies of great complexity, with notes of dried fruit, spice and fine wood, unlike any other. A house whose reputation among enthusiasts is well established.
