The wines of Domaine Jules Métras
The story of Domaine Jules Métras
Jules Métras is the son of the famous Yvon Métras, regarded as one of the pioneers of natural wine alongside Jean Foillard and Marcel Lapierre among others. In 2014, after various experiences abroad, Jules returned to his native land and settled in Vauxrenard, in Beaujolais. He follows perfectly in the footsteps of his father, who trained him on the family estate. Jules decided to farm his own vines and took on small plots around the family home, where he elevates Gamay to perfection on his high-altitude terroirs. A Beaujolais benchmark not to be missed!
The cuvées of Jules Métras
On around 2 hectares of old vines aged 80 years, in the Beaujolais-Villages and Chiroubles appellations, Jules opts for organic farming and vinification without inputs. In 2014 he made his very first vintage, offering absolutely exceptional wines among the greatest in the region, in a style close to his father's. From vineyard to cellar, Jules's meticulous work yields natural wines that reveal their terroir. He notably makes the Bijou and La Montagne cuvées, from a new plot at the upper limit of the Chiroubles appellation. Jules is a highly talented winemaker, and there is no doubt the family legacy has been passed on.
