Who are Camille and Mathieu Apffel?

The Camille and Mathieu Apffel estate is located in St Baldoph in Savoie, on the slopes of Mont Granier. Originally from the Jura and after travelling for wine (including in Australia), Mathieu started his activity in 2014. He works his vines using organic farming on around 5 hectares.
Mathieu Apffel is a humble, generous winemaker who proudly embraces values of healthy land and additive-free winemaking. Supported by his wife Camille, the estate is part of a renewal dynamic in the Savoie vineyard. Their wines are served on fine tables in the capital and across France. The result in the bottle is unfiltered, pure fermented grape juice with impressive precision and energy. Wines with a fresh, juicy, and "cheeky" character, as Camille likes to describe them.

The new wave of dry white wines from Savoie

Camille and Mathieu produce several cuvées across the estate, mostly dry white wines from Savoie such as Rouzan Blanc, Terroir de Saint Alban, Soleyane Blanc, and their flagship cuvée Avant la Tempête using grape varieties native to Savoie: Jacquère, Chasselas (used only in the Détours cuvée), and Altesse, also known as Roussette de Savoie. They also cultivate a plot behind the Massif du Chat in the town of Parves, where they blend Pinot Noir and Mondeuse for a fruity result in Soleyane Rouge and a very fresh Soleyanne Blanc (Altesse).

Natural wines and organic farming

Enriched by their travels around the world, Camille and Mathieu are constantly evolving. Full of creativity, they regularly give birth to new cuvées, inspired by encounters with winemakers in France and beyond. Their goal is to best adapt to climate change and daily challenges. Like Détours or La Grêlée, created after a hailstorm in June 2019, shortly after they settled. Or the Soleyane cuvées, born from a lovely meeting with a vineyard and a love at first sight for vines located across the Massif du Chat, on the Bugey border.
We are lucky and proud to offer the wines of this adorable, joyful, and brilliant couple with a promising future. Camille and Mathieu are clearly part of the beautiful wine landscape of Savoie, crafting natural, pure, living wines without additives, with an outrageous freshness that truly showcases the Savoie terroir.
