The wines of Domaine Sextant
The story of Domaine Sextant
Behind Domaine Sextant is Julien Altaber, a winemaker who could have chosen milk over wine. Luckily for natural wine lovers, the vine won. Julien spent about ten years alongside the great Dominique Derain, one of the historic figures of natural wine in Burgundy. A school of rigour, precision and respect for living things that deeply shaped the way he works. He went out on his own in 2007, first buying grapes, then acquired his own vines in 2011. The grapes come from vines farmed without herbicides or synthetic products, and winemaking uses as few inputs as possible. Immense know-how, undeniable precision: Julien is an outstanding winemaker, able to craft living, digestible wines from Burgundy's great appellations as well as simpler cuvées.
The cuvées of Domaine Sextant
At Sextant, the range goes from easy-drinking wines to the great terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Among the cuvées we have been lucky enough to offer, Monthélie Sur la Velle perfectly illustrates Julien's style. The village of Monthélie overlooks the Meursault appellation and gives here an elegant red with character, from vines farmed without herbicides or synthetic products. A precise, fine pinot noir, best served with a pan-roasted veal chop or quality poultry. Sextant's wines are made in small quantities and sell out fast: when they arrive with us, don't wait too long to discover the touch of a winemaker trained at the best school.
