The love story of the Domaine des Rouges Queues

It was in 1989 that Jean-Yves and Isabelle Vantey settled on the heights of the Côte de Beaune, on the land of Maranges. Surprisingly, over there you are in Saône-et-Loire but the appellation is indeed the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy. It was therefore south of Meursault, in the Maranges valley, that the couple saw themselves becoming winegrowers. By visiting this place, love at first sight operates.
Jean-Yves Vantey already had a foothold in the wine world, thanks to his studies in viticulture. And Isabelle wanted to build a project for two.
The dream began to come true in 1998 when they bought their first hectare of red vines. To continue to launch and before being able to live from their common passion, Jean-Yves Vantey worked in different fields until 2007. Today, the Domaine des Rouges Queues extends over 6 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and it is a full-time job for both of them.

Exceptional soils for the Domaine des Rouges Queues

Jean-Yves and Isabelle Vantey are committed to putting respect for the environment at the center of their priorities. This is why the Domaine des Rouges Queues has been certified organic since 2002 and biodynamic since 2008. They obtained the Ecocert label as well as Demeter in 2015. Their five hectares of vines located in the center of the wild hills hold no secrets for them. Their plots are all different but they know them down to the smallest detail, they want to be as close as possible to the land, to understand them and support them in their development. Each plot has its own wine, a wish of the couple to be able to best express the expression of the soil they love so much.
At the Domaine des Rouges Queues we use little or no machinery, especially on the two Premiers Crus as well as the Maranges Blanc. On these soils, plowing is done with the horse. The soils are dug under foot, there are no weed killers or insecticides. Here we let the nature live.
For the wines, Jean-Yves and Isabelle Vantey also want to be the least interventionist possible. Indigenous yeasts are therefore part of their work, there is little or no filtration, the use of sulfur is done in a homeopathic way.

The wines of the Domaine des Rouges Queues

Jean-Yves and Isabelle Vantey produce exceptional natural Burgundy wines where finesse and expression of the soil combine perfectly. The Domaine des Rouges Queues is a bit like “the rising star of Maranges”, the signature is beautiful.
The wines of the Domaine des Rouges Queues are mostly worked in whole bunches for the reds, the fermentation takes place in vats and barrels. Depending on the needs of each wine, each vintage, there may be punching down and pumping over. It is a meticulous work that is reflected in the wines. Wines that come out of the classic Burgundy wine! The estate's wines express themselves on a fruit that explodes in the mouth, they are complex according to the soil, they are fine, they are elegant. Wines to drink in their youth but also to keep in the cellar for the most patient.

Isabelle knows how to make her wines, she knows where to take them so that they best express the soil of Maranges. Like the Maranges Vigne Blanche 2019 and 2020 which comes from limestone soils and white earth. The plot is located on a south-west facing slope. The expression of the Pinot Noir here is magnificent, of great finesse, with incomparable fruitiness. To be compared between 2019 and 2020.
On the expression of Pinot noir, there is also the Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 2021. A Pinot noir which reveals a fruity and airy side at the same time.
On the Maranges appellation of course, we find the Maranges En Buliet 2021. The vine that capsized the heart of the couple. This Pinot Noir from Maranges is greedy and deep at the same time, the tannins are silky... In short, it has everything going for it.
Another (great) soil, another Maranges, the Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière 2020. This 1er Cru comes from a small plot which offers an exceptional aromatic palette, the expression is elegant, intense. To be tested quickly but above all to keep in the cellar so that it reaches its peak in a few years.
The Domaine des Rouges Queues also produces a red Santenay 2020 where the melted tannins harmonize perfectly with a beautiful roundness. Deliciousness guaranteed!
Finally to finish on the red wines, there is the Coteaux Bourguignons 2021 bottle made from Gamay. A fresh, invigorating juice signed by Isabelle! To be obtained very quickly. The whites are also an integral part of the Domaine des Rouges Queues, such as the Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 2020 and 2021 bottle. This 100% Chardonnay is made with freshness, it explodes on the fruit, an ideal white Burgundy wine on sunny days. .
And there is the bottle Maranges Blanc 2020 and 2021 which deserves to be kept a little in the cellar to appreciate it more. Roundness, minerality, aromas, a balanced wine thanks to its gentle aging (10 months). Not to be missed!
