Have you always wondered how many glasses can we serve with a bottle of wine? How can we correctly calculate the number of bottles to be expected according to the number of guests? What are the different possibilities according to the different bottle sizes? We tell you everything at Epicurieux.
How many glasses can you serve with a bottle of wine?
To know how many glasses a bottle of wine contains, it is first important to know its container. It will also allow you to calculate the number of bottles you need for an event, depending on your number of guests.
The standard bottle of wine contains 750 ml, which means to approximately 5 or 6 standard glasses of wine of 150 ml each.
However, the exact amount may also vary depending on the volume served. The quantity of wine served will not be the same during a meal at home as during a dinner in a restaurant (glass regulation, 15cl).
Consumption will also depend on the moment, ie there will be a greater tendency to consume less at lunchtime and more in the evening.
It is strongly advised not to fill your glass more than halfway so as not to get it all over the place at first, and also for tasting. The wine needs to be in contact with the air, to be able to take full advantage of the aromas.
It is said that it takes 3 to 4 people to consume a bottle of wine but it depends on the type of wine tasted.
It would take 2 to 3 people to consume a bottle of natural red wine, 3 people for a bottle of natural white wine. To consume a bottle of natural rose wine or natural sparkling wine, the number of people is rather 4.
What are the different bottle sizes?
The bottle sizes are numerous, here is a list of the names used. The formats that our winegrowers use most often are bottle and magnum sizes.
